    Description: This course discusses the unique characteristics of communicating across cultural lines. It also discusses
    various cultural perspectives, and the skills and abilities needed to address them in the workplace and society.
    Objectives: RECALL the definition of culture. IDENTIFY the major components of culture. IDENTIFY principal barriers to
    cross-cultural communication. IDENTIFY skills for improving cross-cultural communication.

Effective Written Communication (.2 CEU/2 Hours)
    Description: This course familiarizes students with the classes of written communication and methods for enhancing
    general communication. It also discusses tools for enhancing communication about individual children and methods for
    using technology to enhance communication.
    Objectives: IDENTIFY classes of written communication. RECALL tools and methods that enhance general
    communication. IDENTIFY tools that enhance communication about individual children. RECALL methods for using
    technology to enhance communication.

Encouraging Parental Involvement (.1 CEU/1 Hour)
    Description: This course discusses the importance of parental involvement with and within child care facilities. It
    describes activities and methods to encourage parental involvement, identifies barriers to parental involvement, and
    presents activities that may assist in overcoming these barriers.
    Objectives: RECALL the significance of parental involvement to a child’s success. IDENTIFY guidelines for encouraging
    parental involvement. RECALL activities that may encourage parental involvement. RECALL barriers to parental
    involvement. IDENTIFY actions that may help overcome barriers to parental involvement

Helping Children Cope with Grief (.2 CEU/2 Hours)
    Description: This course focuses on helping children cope with grief caused by loss or disaster. It discusses phases of
    grief and children’s reactions to grief or stress. Suggestions for child care providers to use to help children develop
    healthy coping skills are provided. This course also discusses children’s behaviors that may indicate a difficulty coping
    with grief, and guidelines for child care providers to use when communicating concerns to parents.
    Objectives: RECALL the phases of grief. IDENTIFY children’s reactions to grief. RECALL actions to use to help children
    cope with grief. RECALL guidelines for answering children’s questions about sensitive issues. RECALL activities that
    encourage development of healthy coping skills. IDENTIFY behaviors that indicate difficulty coping with grief. RECALL
    general guidelines for communicating with families regarding coping difficulties.

Open House (.1 CEU/1 Hour)
    Description: This course discusses the purpose of open houses, as well as benefits of open houses to parents,
    teachers, and administrators. It also provides strategies and ideas for scheduling and planning a successful open house.
    Objectives: RECALL the purpose of an open house. IDENTIFY benefits of open houses. RECALL potential times for
    scheduling open houses. RECALL themes and activities that enhance open houses.

Overcoming Difficulties Communicating with Parents (.1 CEU/1 Hour)
    Description: This course discusses the benefits of, and responsibilities for, establishing effective communication with
    difficult parents. Parental mind-sets and personality traits that hinder effective communication are identified, and methods
    and techniques for overcoming communication barriers are discussed.
    Objectives: RECALL effective communication skills. RECALL benefits of, and responsibilities for, establishing effective
    communication with parents. IDENTIFY parental mind-sets and personality traits that hinder effective communication.

Relating with Parents (.1 CEU/1 Hour)
    Description: This course discusses sound business practices relating to communicating with parents. It also identifies
    techniques for establishing and maintaining relationships with parents and discusses strategies for keeping lines of
    communication open.
    Objectives: RECALL principles for relating to and communicating with parents. IDENTIFY common causes of tension
    between parents and child care providers. RECALL techniques for establishing and maintaining relationships with
    parents. RECALL strategies for keeping lines of communication open between care providers and parents.

Surviving Toddlerhood (.2 CEU/2 Hours)
    Description: This course familiarizes students with elements of toddler development and common misbehavior. It also
    discusses how to manage and prevent toddler misbehavior.
    Objectives: RECALL the elements of toddler development. RECALL common behavioral issues. RECALL measures to
    prevent toddler misbehavior. RECALL effective discipline techniques to manage toddler misbehavior.
    Duration: 2  hours  
Working and Communicating with Families (.1 CEU/1 Hour)
    Description: This course familiarizes students with communication techniques to use when interacting with families in a
    child care environment. It also discusses controlling access, medical consent, emergency notification procedures, and
    abuse notification.
    Objectives: RECALL general guidelines for communicating with families in a child care environment. RECALL
    guidelines for communicating sensitive issues with parents and/or caregivers. RECALL responsibility of a child care
    provider to address developmental needs with parents and/or caregivers. IDENTIFY access control techniques used in a
    child care environment. RECALL methods for reporting suspected child abuse to parents and/or the proper authorities.
    RECALL the purpose of medical consent forms. RECALL the purpose and components of an emergency plan. RECALL
    emergency notification procedures used in a child care environment.
