    Description: This course discusses the purpose of childhood assessments, as well as challenges associated with
    assessing young children. It also provides information on effective techniques and uses of assessment.
    Objectives: RECALL a working definition of childhood assessment. IDENTIFY purposes and benefits of accurate
    childhood assessments. RECALL challenges associated with assessing young children. RECALL pitfalls of using
    standardized tests to assess early childhood development. IDENTIFY alternate early childhood assessment methods and
    techniques. RECALL methods and techniques for retaining and organizing data. IDENTIFY types of development
    measured by appropriate childhood assessment methods and techniques. IDENTIFY effective uses of early childhood
    assessment.

Assessing Children's Physical Development (.2 CEU/2 Hours)
    Description: This course discusses assessment and screening of children’s physical development, including common
    assessment and screening tools and instruments used by health care professionals and child care providers to evaluate
    children’s physical development. It also discusses areas of children’s physical development, including health and growth,
    visual and auditory development, and gross and fine motor skills development.
    Objectives: IDENTIFY tools and instruments health care professionals use to assess physical development.
    IDENTIFY areas of children’s physical development. RECALL components of physical health and growth, including bone
    and muscle structure, height, weight, and head circumference. IDENTIFY tools and instruments child care providers use to
    screen for delays or impairments in physical development. RECALL indications of delays or impairments related to
    receipt and/or processing of visual and auditory stimuli. IDENTIFY parts of the body relating to gross and fine motor skills.

    Description: This course familiarizes students with techniques and strategies for improving school-age student behavior.
    Behavior management is an important part of establishing a positive learning environment. This course provides basic
    information to help child care providers develop an effective behavior management approach for dealing with children. It
    discusses the goal, purpose, and benefits of behavior management; strategies, techniques, and tips; why children
    misbehave; consequences and discipline; and adult roles.
    Objectives: RECALL the purpose and goal of behavior management. RECALL the benefits of using behavior
    management to promote positive behavior. RECALL strategies for increasing and/or reinforcing positive behaviors
    RECALL effective behavior management techniques and strategies. RECALL proactive behavior management actions
    caregivers can take. RECALL causes of, and reasons for, misbehavior. RECALL health disorders that can affect a child’s
    behavior IDENTIFY two types of behavior consequences. RECALL results of using reinforcement to modify behavior.

    Description: This course will familiarize child care providers with the definition and characteristics of bullies. It also
    details the effects of bullying from both a bully's and a victim's perspective, and discusses strategies child care providers
    can implement to help prevent bullying.
    Objectives: RECALL three common types of bullying. RECALL common characteristics of children who bully.
    RECALL common characteristics of children who are victimized by bullies. RECALL the emotional and physical effects
    associated with children who are bullied. RECALL steps child care providers can implement to prevent bullying.

Children's Temperament (.1 CEU/1 Hour)
    Description: This course discusses children’s temperaments and how temperament affects behavior. It also addresses
    child care strategies for managing temperament and nurturing children’s unique personalities.
    Objectives: RECALL the definition of temperament. IDENTIFY differences and similarities between childhood and adult
    temperaments. IDENTIFY three categories of temperament. IDENTIFY temperament traits of infants, toddlers, and young
    children. RECALL the relationship amongst children’s temperaments, conflict, and educational growth. IDENTIFY tips for
    managing temperaments.

Documenting Children's Behaviors (.1 CEU/1 Hour)
    Description: This course discusses the importance of documenting children’s behaviors. It also discusses methods of
    observing and recording behaviors, identifies appropriate tools and techniques, and explains analysis and interpretation
    of observations.
    Objectives: IDENTIFY benefits of documenting children’s behavior. RECALL activities associated with documenting
    behavior. IDENTIFY applicable observation methods. RECALL information that should and should not be included when
    recording observations. IDENTIFY appropriate recording tools and techniques for various types of observation. IDENTIFY

    Description: This course familiarizes students with the major learning styles. It discusses how to determine children’s
    learning styles and how to tailor activities to individual learning styles.

    RECALL the importance of recognizing learning styles. RECALL ways to recognize and identify learning styles. RECALL

Positive Solutions for Challenging Behaviors (.2 CEU/2 Hours)
    Description: This course discusses guidance and discipline techniques for young children and the importance of
    discipline in a child’s social and emotional development. Four age ranges and stages of early childhood development,
    care provider interventions, and assessment techniques used to identify children with behavioral disorders are discussed.
    The elements of a well-organized classroom, the benefits of a consistent daily schedule, and the role of rules, rituals, and
    routines in managing children’s behavior are identified.

    Description: This course discusses portfolio use in early childhood education. It identifies types of child portfolios, the

    roles of children, parents, and educators in portfolio implementation, as well as the benefits of portfolio use and the
    relationship between performance and portfolio assessment.
