    Description: This course describes adverse driving conditions and discusses techniques bus operators should use to
    cope with these conditions and ensure children are transported safely and efficiently. Adverse environmental conditions
    discussed include night, fog, snow, ice, rain, excessive temperatures, and mountainous terrain. It also describes the
    dynamics of vehicle skids and appropriate recovery techniques.
    Terminal Objective: Upon completion of this lesson, a bus operator will recognize inclement weather situations and
    related adverse road conditions and recall procedures necessary to keep a vehicle under proper control, maintaining the
    safety and security of passengers.
    Enabling Objectives: DEFINE adverse driving conditions. RECALL factors that require extra vigilance when driving in
    restricted visibility. RECALL procedures and techniques that increase safety when driving in precipitation. RECALL
    procedures and techniques that increase safety when driving in extreme temperatures. RECALL procedures and
    techniques that increase safety when driving in mountainous terrain. RECALL dynamics of vehicle skids and skid
    recovery procedures.

Sound Driving Practices: Basic Procedures (.1 CEU/1 Hour)
    Description: This course describes characteristics of a professional driver and discusses a variety of conditions that
    affect drivers and vehicle operation. This course also discusses sound driving practices, including traffic control, steering
    techniques, turning movements, highway hypnosis, six-point vision scan procedure, night driving, and headlight etiquette.
    Objectives: RECALL characteristics of a professional driver. RECALL six conditions that can contribute to a
    preventable accident. RECALL functions of traffic control devices. RECALL proper steering techniques. RECALL proper
    turning movement. IDENTIFY causes of highway hypnosis. RECALL the six-point visual scan procedure. RECALL sound
    driving practices.

Sound Driving Practices: Rules of the Road (.2 CEU/2 Hours)
    Description: This course discusses sound driving practices, including speed limits, following distances, passing,
    stopping, downshifting, and avoiding collisions.
    Objectives: RECALL guidelines regarding speed limits. IDENTIFY defenses against surrounding vehicles.
    RECALL rules for maintaining a safe following distance. RECALL factors affecting stopping ability.
    RECALL driving techniques for avoiding collisions. RECALL sound driving practices.
