Discovery of Math (.1 CEU/1 Hour)
    Description: This course familiarizes students with the use of discovery and play in math education. These methods
    allow children to explore math in a play setting while allowing them to generate their own solutions to mathematical
    problems posed by the child care provider.
    Objectives:  RECALL basic math concepts normally acquired by children ages 6 months to 6 years. RECALL methods
    for using discovery learning, including play to assist children in learning basic math concepts

Early Literacy (.1 CEU/1 Hour)
    Description: This lesson discusses age-appropriate early literacy techniques, areas of literacy knowledge, and ways to
    create a literacy-rich environment.
    Objectives: RECALL the definitions of emergent literacy and early literacy. IDENTIFY techniques that encourage early
    literacy among infants, toddlers, and preschoolers.  IDENTIFY techniques for reading aloud. RECALL the benefits of
    reading to infants and young children. IDENTIFY areas of literacy knowledge. RECALL the definition of a print-rich
    environment. IDENTIFY materials and books that are appropriate for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. RECALL
    design considerations for a reading center. IDENTIFY appropriate materials to include in a reading center for young
    children.

Equipment, Activities, and Strategies for Promoting Physical Activity (.1 CEU/1 Hour)
    Description: This course familiarizes students with levels and types of physical activity that are suitable for children. It
    discusses age-appropriate activities and equipment, recommended activity levels, benefits of being active, risks from
    being inactive, and strategies that can be used to encourage children to become physically active.
    Objectives: RECALL recommended activity levels for infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and school-age children. RECALL
    benefits children will receive from being physically active. RECALL causes of, and risks resulting from, inactivity.
    IDENTIFY age-appropriate physical activities for infants, toddlers, preschoolers,
    and school-age children. IDENTIFY age-appropriate toys and play equipment for infants, toddlers,
    preschoolers, and school-age children. IDENTIFY strategies for promoting physical activity in children.

Experiencing Music in the Classroom (.1 CEU/1 Hour)
    Description: This course familiarizes students with techniques for incorporating music education into the classroom
    including singing, making music, and listening. It discusses the cognitive and emotional benefits of music.
    Objectives: RECALL benefits of early childhood music education, including social, emotional, physical, and
    cognitive benefits. RECALL basic elements and principles of music. IDENTIFY ways to encourage music appreciation in
    young children. RECALL elements of, and design considerations for, music centers. IDENTIFY ways to modify music
    centers for special needs children. RECALL age-appropriate musical activities for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers.
    RECALL child care providers’ roles in creating and/or maintaining and supporting music centers.

Methods for Enhancing Intellectual Development (.2 CEU/2 Hours)
    Description: This course familiarizes students with methods for enhancing intellectual growth in children. It discusses
    brain development, how to motivate children to learn, creativity’s role in intellectual growth, classroom management, and
    strategies for effective teaching.
    Objectives: RECALL the effects of external stimuli on a developing brain. RECALL how mental achievements
    contribute to social and emotional growth. IDENTIFY actions that stimulate and encourage cognitive development.
    RECALL techniques and strategies for motivating children to learn. RECALL educational activities that can be used to
    stimulate intellectual development. RECALL areas in which creativity helps children learn and grow. IDENTIFY types of
    toys that help children develop intellectual and physical skills. RECALL ways to prepare a classroom for learning.
    RECALL strategies for encouraging positive behavior. RECALL how to use praise effectively. RECALL techniques for
    maintaining classroom discipline. RECALL proactive strategies that can prevent class management problems. RECALL
    characteristics of effective child care providers. RECALL characteristics of a variety of teaching models. RECALL
    developmentally appropriate teaching practices that encourage cognitive development. RECALL criteria for evaluating
    effective teaching. RECALL the child care provider’s role in preparing children for school. IDENTIFY the three types of
    learning styles.

Physical Activity (.1 CEU/1 Hour)
    Description: This course familiarizes students with the importance of physical activity to promote muscular development
    in infants, toddlers, and young children in a child care environment. It also suggests the amount of time children should
    spend engaged in physical activity, and activities for children with special needs.
    Objectives Terminal Objective: Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to identify techniques to
    promote physical activity in a child care environment through structured outdoor and indoor play. The student will also be
    able to recall environmental arrangements that support physical activity.
    Enabling Objectives: RECALL the importance of physical activity to promote muscular development in infants,
    toddlers, and preschoolers. RECALL suggested amounts of time children should spend engaged in physical activity.
    RECALL structured outdoor activities that promote physical health. RECALL structured indoor activities that promote
    physical health. RECALL physical activities for children with special needs.

Physical Activity for Children with Disabilities (.1 CEU/1 Hour)
    Description: This course familiarizes the student with the importance of physical activity for children with disabilities. It
    also discusses inclusion within the child care classroom and provides guidelines and strategies to modify activities to
    encourage a healthy, active lifestyle.
    Objectives: IDENTIFY fundamental motor skills and their definitions. IDENTIFY basic cognitive skills that are enhanced
    by physical activity. RECALL the types of exercise. IDENTIFY barriers of physical activity for disabled children. IDENTIFY
    benefits of physical activity for disabled children. RECALL the definition of inclusion. IDENTIFY benefits of inclusion.
    RECALL strategies used for inclusion of disabled children. RECALL guidelines used to modify physical activities for
    disabled children. RECALL areas where physical activities can be adapted for disabled children.

Teaching Science to Young Children (.1 CEU/1 Hour)
    Description: This course familiarizes students with the definitions of science and hands-on learning, as well as the
    goals and benefits of incorporating science into the classroom. It discusses strategies that can be used to teach science
    fundamentals to children.
    Objectives: RECALL definitions of science and hands-on learning. RECALL science process skills. IDENTIFY the goal
    of a science program. IDENTIFY strategies used to teach science concepts. RECALL the benefits of a science program.
    Duration: 1  hour
Using the Arts as a Teaching Tool (.1 CEU/1 Hour)
    Description: This course familiarizes students with ways the arts can be used to help children develop physically, as
    well as cognitively. It discusses how including the arts in education contributes to the social, physical, creative, and
    intellectual development of children.
    Objectives: RECALL differences between left-brained and right-brained learning. IDENTIFY ways to incorporate the
    arts into an integrated curriculum. RECALL benefits of using the arts to teach children. RECALL how an integrated
    curriculum incorporating the arts helps children with different learning styles. IDENTIFY learner-appropriate arts activities.
    IDENTIFY potential hazards in arts classrooms.

Using Visual Arts to Enhance Development (.1 CEU/1 Hour)
    Description: This course familiarizes students with the visual arts and how art activities aid childhood development. It
    discusses the stages of early childhood development and how using the visual arts as a teaching tool can help children
    meet academic and physical goals.
    Objectives: RECALL developmental skills enhanced through participation in visual arts activities. IDENTIFY age-
    appropriate visual arts activities that enhance skill development. IDENTIFY visual arts activities appropriate for children
    with special needs. IDENTIFY general ways to incorporate visual arts into classroom activities.
    RECALL how technology involving visual arts can be used to teach developmental skills. IDENTIFY potential hazards in
