| ASSESSMENT: OPENING THE DOOR TO QUALITY INFANT/TODDLER CARE Module 1 - What Is Assessment and How It Helps You Provide Quality Care - 6.0 Hours By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to: • Identify 6 keys to quality care. • Apply strategies for building relationships with all children. • Explain ways assessment helps to achieve quality care. • Understand that assessment is asking questions and gathering information with others to learn about children. • Apply 3 new assessment strategies for getting to know children. Module 2 - Getting To Know Children - 6.0 Hours By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to: • Identify helpful questions to guide assessment in order to get to know children well and respond in ways that support their growth and learning. • Recognize the role of self-awareness and an open mind when conducting ongoing, equitable assessment and providing quality care. • Apply strategies for building positive relationships with children who may “push buttons.” • Use observation more effectively day by day and in partnership with families to learn about children. • Apply a deeper understanding of child development and learning to their work with children and families. • Use an observation action plan to learn more about a child. Module 3 - Being An Effective Observer - 6.0 Hours By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to: • Apply guidelines for effective observation • Use strategies for recording and organizing observations of children’s learning • Recognize how personal feelings for children and families can interfere with assessment • Use open and focused observation • Use strategies for exchanging assessment information with families Module 4 - Using Assessment to Make Decisions About Development and Learning - 6.0 Hours By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to: • Explain how to use assessment to promote development and learning • Describe factors that lead to effective decisions • Identify 5 recent decisions that promoted a child’s development and learning • Apply 3 new strategies for planning and deciding with families Module 5 - Using Assessment Everyday to Support Quality Infant/Toddler Care - 6.0 Hours By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to: • Describe assessment knowledge, skills, and a personal action plan for professional growth. • Use new strategies for assessing children daily. • Use a tool to keep track of information and questions about children. • Use reflection and interpretation of assessment information to guide decision-making. • Apply new assessment strategies for partnering with families. Infant/Toddler Assessment training is offered at the Educare Learning Center (formerly Dandelion), 2538 Jefferson Pike, Jefferson, MD 21755 (8 miles west of Frederick on Route 340) from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM; and The Learning Center, 535 Summit Avenue, Hagerstown, MD 21740; Fee = $40 per Person per Module. Your Location: This Infant/Toddler Assessment Training can be offered at your location for a minimum fee of $800 for up to 20 trainees. |
